Front Range Airport UAS Mapping

A recent collaborative mission to map Front Range Airport was conducted using Unmanned Aircraft Systems.  Participants in the project will discuss the mission from planning to completion.

John Heiberger, P.E. Project Manager for Kimley-Horn

John is an experienced Engineer with diverse background in design, analysis, and engineering project management. He is a self-motivated individual with a demonstrated ability to lead technical, high-performance teams to achieve project objectives on time and within budget. John’s responsibilities include management of projects including marketing, contracting, scheduling, budgeting, staffing, client relations, and program management. John has been flying UAS since 2006 with experience in research and development, remote sensing, and photogrammetry. At Kimley-Horn, John is co-leading efforts to expand UAS data collection capabilities to serve private- and public-sector projects in the areas of stormwater management, grading and drainage design, inspection, and construction management. John earned UAS Flight Training Certification in 2015 and became a Part 107 Remote Pilot in 2016.

Shahn Sederberg, Communications & Multimedia Manager for Colorado Dept. of Transportation

Shahn Sederberg is the Communications and Multimedia Manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics. His aviation career began in 1997 when he entered the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority’s internship program, after which he was hired as a full-time Operations Specialist for Centennial Airport, the nation’s second busiest general aviation airport.

In 2001, Shahn became an Aviation Planner for the Colorado Division of Aeronautics. His responsibilities encompassed the strategic planning of Federal and State funded capital improvement projects for the Colorado Air and Space System, as well as performing airport 5010 inspections and Pavement Condition Index (PCI) evaluations at each of Colorado’s 74 public use airports.

 

 

Nicholas Childs, Regional Manager for 3D Robotics

Nicholas is originally from Minnetonka, MN where he is 1 of 11 children. He then attended college at the University of Montana and decided to move to Colorado after completing his degrees in both High-Tech and Entertainment Management. Before working with 3D Robotics, he was immersed in technology working for companies such as UbiSoft, Square Inc., and Autodesk. Outside of work he enjoys Cycling, Skateboarding, and Snowboarding and overall adrenaline inducing activities.

 

 

 

Uven Chong, PhD., Lead Infrastructure Data Scientist for Booz Allen Hamilton

Dr. Uven Chong, a Lead Engineer (Associate) at Booz Allen Hamilton, has a PhD in Engineering and an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge. At Booz Allen, he has provided data collection and analytics support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Commerce, and the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP). He has led research to address challenges facing the transportation and infrastructure sectors, including the integration of emerging technologies such as drones. Currently, he is the project manager for an ACRP project aimed at developing guidance and tools that help airports integrate drones into their regular operations. Prior to Booz Allen, Dr. Chong was a Science & Technology Fellow at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, where he developed data collection and analytics methods to evaluate road construction cost overruns, cost-benefit impacts of road safety, and the viability new technologies in developing countries.

Eugene Torres, Air Traffic Manager, Front Range Airport

Eugene grew up in New York City and joined the United States Marines Corps in 2005. While in the Marines Corps Eugene became an Air Traffic Controller eventually becoming a Tower Supervisor while stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ. Once his enlistment was complete he returned to New York to work as an Air Traffic Control Specialist at Francis S. Gabrieski Airport in Westhampton, NY. Eugene then moved to Colorado to become and still is the Air Traffic Manager at Front Range Airport.

Derek S. Brown, PLS Group Manager/Land Surveying for Aztec Consultants, Inc.

Derek grew up in Illinois and graduated from Morrison Institute of Technology with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology. Derek is a Licensed Land Surveyor in Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma and currently holds the position of Group Manager at Aztec Consultants, Inc. in Littleton, CO.
